http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/may/11/spotify-financial-results-streaming-music-profitable

Spotify recorded €1.08bn of revenues in 2014, but also a net loss of €162m.

Its 15m paying subscribers helped Spotify to more than €1bn of revenues in 2014, but its losses are still growing faster than its income. The company’s financial results, published in Luxembourg and seen by the Guardian, reveal that its revenues increased from €746.9m (£537.87m) in 2013 to €1.08bn (£777m) in 2014 – year-on-year growth of 45%. However, Spotify recorded an operating loss of €165.1m (£119m) in 2014 compared to €91.2m (£65.7m) in 2013, while its net loss nearly trebled from €55.9m (£40.3m) in 2013 to €162.3m (£117m) in 2014.

This shows the business plan is working and could be very successful in the future. I think Spotify can expand into a online video service.

A man works on a laptop computer near a Windows 10 display at Microsoft Build in San Francisco.

Microsoft to move to smaller, more frequent updates – meaning the all-important version number will remain the same from now on. The future will be one of “Windows as a service”, with the final release of Windows 10 being updated as necessary, rather than holding features back for the next major paid-for update.

I cannot believe this as we still have many years of technology developments and I think there will be a windows update in the future and this isnt the end of microsoft as we will see a new windows

why and with what success are traditional media institutions adopting to the challenge posed by new digital media.

The development with new/digital media means that traditional media institutions have to change their strategies to cope with the competition which is being provided by online institutions. in the current digital era new and digital media has revolutionised the world, along with the internet being “the most important medium of the twentieth century” (Briggs and Burke). Some major institutions of the past haven't been able to keep up with the developments.

Newspapers are the traditional sources which have been the most affected by new/digital media because newspapers are available on line free of charge. News giant Rupert Murdoch stated that the world is changing and newspapers have to adapt. However he has developed with the development of new digital media as he has introduce a pay wall to his newspapers which are the times and the sun and you have to pay to view their news. However other competitors have not done this which are daily mail etc. and they make their money by advertising. Daily mail have been the most successful with the development with new digital media as they get the most viewers which means they will get the most advertising money.

A Marxist will believe that major players like sky are using the development to keep control and maintain their power and all the major players are all on line and are the ones who have the largest following base which shows they still have the post power and really backs a Marxist perspective. In the western world power is very important and most major players have the most power and this way they can still use the hypodermic needle theory as they inject their values and ideologies in their audience and a Marxist will just say that new digital media has allowed them to do this.

However a Pluralist would believe that the power has swung into the hands of the audience and new digital media has helped them gain more power. You could agree with this because institutions have given the opportunity to audiences to get involved and share their opinion and the institution which uses their audience the most is sky sports as they allow their watchers to have a say in major debates. They read out opinions on their shows and they would argue that audience now have a say.

News institutions have started to use more user generated content more often because they know that they cannot be everywhere and film all the affairs in the world happening. The way they have tackled this problem is by using the users as people are everywhere and most of them have smartphones and when something is happening major someone is likely to be recoding it and this is where institutions can cover the news with back up which is most likely to be UGC.

In conclusion, the development of new digital media has made major institutions to make major changes to cope with the development. and I believe all the successful ones have gone to social media to cope with the development to keep up. However My opinion is that institutions like mail and sky have coped very well because they are expanding with digital media.

The heads of thousands of businesses, who collectively employ nearly 100,000 people, have signed a letter in support of the Conservatives.

  • The document, which is signed by bosses from around 5,000 companies, follows a similar letter from more than 100 leading business executives.

Minecraft is the most popular game franchise on YouTube.

Minecraft remains the most popular game franchise on YouTube by some distance, with videos of Mojang’s crafting game notching up more than 3.9bn views in March 2015 alone.

  • Minecraft was well ahead of second-placed Grand Theft Auto, which spawned videos watched nearly 1.4bn times in March.
  • Mobile game Five Nights at Freddy’s took third place with 1.3bn views that month, beating high-profile console franchises Call of Duty (851m views) and FIFA (770m views).
  • PewDiePie (299.1m views in February), The Diamond Minecart (249.5m), Popular MMOs (233.7m) and Stampy (222.9m) were all among the top 15 channels on YouTube that month.
  • Mojang has always encouraged fans and pro YouTubers alike to use Minecraft for their videos on YouTube, without filing copyright takedowns or demanding a share of their advertising revenues on the service.

A hacking ring has stolen up to $1bn from banks around the world in what would be one of the biggest banking breaches known, a cybersecurity firm says in a report scheduled to be delivered Monday.

  • he hackers have been active since at least the end of 2013 and infiltrated more than 100 banks in 30 countries, according to Russian security company Kaspersky Lab.
  • The hackers seem to limit their theft to about $10m before moving on to another bank, part of the reason why the fraud was not detected earlier, Kaspersky principal security researcher Vicente Diaz said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.
I believe this is very interesting and something that needs to be dealt with because they have stote 1 billion which is a massive amount and I haven't heard about this which shows there hasn't been a serious appeal.

This article is about how it would help google if they buy twitter.  They have been linked to eachother for the last three years but they has never been an agreement. However it would be very hard to buy twitter know because of the jump in share prices.

Twitter is valued at 33 billion dollars
Twitter has around 60 billion dollars in the bank

However I believe it would be very hard to purchase twitter know because it is too big off a company and almost as big as google so it would be very hard>

In my opinion I believe that this is problem with new digital media, and this needs to be sorted out because this happens to many people every day and nothing is being done.

http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/apr/10/apple-watch-arrives-in-stores-gold-only-london

An assortment of Apple's new watch lies on display during a preview day at the Apple Store in Covent Garden in London, Britain, 10 April 2015.

The Apple Watch was made available to order on Friday, with the company’s attempt to discourage customers from camping outside Apple Stores proving largely successful. At 8:01 on Friday morning, London’s major Apple stores in Regent Street and Covent Garden had bare pavement outside – a far cry from the bustling scenes greeting the company’s last major device launches, the iPhones 6 and 6 Plus.

  • Those stores (as well as the Apple outpost in the Selfridges department store) do have one unique draw: the only units of the solid gold, £8,000 Apple Watch Edition available to try on in the whole of Britain. Customers will still have to book an appointment, in slots of up to 15 minutes, using the company’s website, before they can put the 18-karat slab of gold on their wrists

I believe Apple tried to state that to encourage more people to camp outside their store however it didn't work solely because of the price of the product which cant work for their target audience.

Chosen Industry: Sky

Your chosen case study: Sports

Have you got approval from your teacher: Yes

1) How has new and digital media changed the audience experience in your chosen industry?

Sky have allowed their audiences to get involved via new/digital media and they use Social media to get involved and use sources like twitter. This has changed audiences experiences because they can know join in the debate on line, and before this wasn't possible,

2) Has new and digital media changed the way the audience consume your chosen product?

I think it has changed the way consumers consumer the product. Firstly you do not have to be at home to watch sky sports and you can watch it with your tablet or your mobile phone.

3) Has the size of the audience changed as a result of new and digital media?

I believe that it might of changed because the only source prior to digital media was the television and usually people were at work and didnt have time to watch Sky because games are usually broadcasted at working hours, now you can watch the games via sky go which is free when you have subscription and you could keep up with the game.

4) What are the positive changes new and digital media have brought to the audience of your case study? (E.g. greater choice, easier access etc.)

With the development of new digital media it has been very positive for sky because people can now access games outside of work and keep up to date with the news and the other sports because of new digital media and you do not need to carry a big radio anymore

5) What are the negative changes new and digital media have had on your chosen audience? (E.g. quality of product etc.)

I believe with the development of new digital media the games can be accessed very easy without subscription and this is a threat to sky because people might not have pay for subscription as you can watch it for free online and chipped boxes.

6) What about audience pleasures - have these changed as a result of new and digital media?

Audience pleasures have changed with the development of new digital media as audience love to get involved with sky debates with all sports and love to vote via twitter to get involved and make a change to the result of polls. Sky does offer escapism because when you're watching football you forget about everything when you're watching your team.

7) What is the target audience for your chosen case study? Write a demographic/psychographic profile.

I believe the age for watching football is unlimited as when you start you can watch forever until you die and that is with rugby cricket as well. However Sky majority of audience are men and over the last 2 years they are trying to change it up as they broadcast women football, netball and handball and a sportswomen episode every week.

UGC

1)What examples of user-generated content can you find in your case study?

Sky sports use User Generated content to show footage from sports and sport venues and they rely on it on some cases when there are fights at stadiums which people record and put up on twitter. They also show goals which weren't televised from pre season and they rely on ugc to show the goals which weren't televised

2) How has UGC changed things for audiences or institutions in your chosen case study?

I believe there hasn't changed sky sports massively because they rely on their own content which they produce and it hasn't affected sky sports it has affected their news sector but not the sport sector because they create their own footage for users to pay for and watch.

Marxism, Pluralism and Hegemony

1) What would be a Marxist perspective of the impact of new and digital media on your chosen case study?

Marxist would believe that social media networks just help sky as they can get control their audience and tell them what to do on social media, also they would suggest it just helps them stay at the top.

2) How would a pluralist view the impact of new and digital media in your chosen industry?

Pluralist would think that this has given the licence to audiences to get involved and make their opinion more useful to make a difference.

3) Are there any examples of hegemony in your chosen industry or case study?

The hegemonic control is maintained in the television industry through major players like News Corporation- Sky Sports, Sky News, Fox and they also have the biggest newspapers.

Globalisation

1) How has globalisation impacted on your chosen industry or case study?

It has impacted it in a way which is evident.  On sky we always see them promoting each other e.g. now they are promoting the election on sky sports and the tittle race on sky news and we see a pattern developing.

2) In your opinion, has globalisation had a positive or negative impact on your chosen industry and case study? Why?

Globalization has had a positive impact on the television industry as they can now easily promote each other on their different platforms.

Social media

1) How has your industry or case study used social media to promote its products?

Yes as Sky sports rely heavily on social media to promote the brand as they use their own twitter account to promote upcoming games and they use youtube to promote upcoming fixtures and rely heavily on it because it isnt as expensive as TV and it can reach out to more people.

2) Provide examples of how your case study has used social media and explain the impact this would have on audiences.

This is Sky Sports advertising on Twitter and advertising the next match that will be coming on, this tweet reaches out to all their followers and gets high amount retweets and shares

3) Is social media an opportunity or a threat to your industry and case study?

Social networks are an opportunity and sky have pounced as they use it very much to promote and involve audience, however the development of internet is a threat because people can access the games online for free.

Statistics

1) What statistics can you find to illustrate the impact new and digital media has had on your industry or case study? For example, in news, the UK newspaper industry sold more than 12m copies a day in 2001 but in 2014 it was below 7m.

Sky Sports News HQ have tweeted 37k times followers-  3.6 million followers

Sky sports football have tweeted 50 k times-  1.9 millions followers

Sky sports football MNF 2k times- followers 119.5 k

2) What impact have the statistics you have found had on institutions in your chosen industry?

This shows that sky have benefited from social media because they can promote to all their followers and their are a high amount which shows that new digital media has helped them

3) What has the impact been for audiences?

That they may rely on sky way too much as it shows with the followers they have. This shows that they can get their news from most sources not just print and this just shows how big the change has been and what NDM has done.

Audiences can use social media to predict and win and could vote for Team of the years using the hashtags

Theories

1) What media theories can you apply to your chosen industry and case study? Select THREE media theories and explain how they are relevant to your case study. Note: these can be ANY of the theories we have learned over the whole of Year 12 and 13.

Hypodermic needle because sky might want to inject values and ideologies into the audiences head that they believe.

Dependence theory is a vital one because many football fans like myself are dependent on sky sports news for football news because they are the most trust worthy and have the best sources, we football fans are dependent in a good way because they are unbiased to a football team and provide the same amount of news usually for the big 4 teams and the smaller teams as they stay in the middle, also they have pundits that have links to different clubs

Pluralism because sky love to get people involved with debates and polls via Twitter.

Wider examples and secondary texts

1) What other texts or institutions are also relevant to your case study? What would be good secondary texts or examples to use to support the findings of your independent case study?

BT SPORT
BBC FOOTBALL
ITV FOOTBALL

CEO Steve Jobs posing with the new iPhone 4 during the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco

This article is about how Apple CEO offered his liver to Steve Jobs. Apple chief executive Tim Cook offered to give Steve Jobs part of his liver while the company's co-founder lay dying in bed waiting for a transplant, according to a new book.

  • According to the book, which charts Jobs' life from young entrepreneur to founding and running the largest company in the world, Cook went to see Jobs at his home in 2009, something he would do every day.
  • Jobs had been ill since late-2003 and had now reportedly developed ascites - an accumulation of fluid in the abdomen. He looked frail and tired, and would lay in bed all day while waiting for a liver transplant.
  • Cook returned to Jobs' house the next day and showed the Apple founder his medical records. He added that he was a blood match and there was no risk involved in the operation. As the liver can regenerate and grow, Cook only needed to give Jobs a small part of his own organ.

http://www.theguardian.com/media/2015/mar/19/mail-online-guardian-increase-daily-audience-january

Mail Online and the Guardian were the only UK titles to experience a global daily increase in January.

This article is about new digital media and how only 2 traditional media papers are doing well online. The average number of unique browsers visiting Mail Online each day increased by more than 5% to 14.7m while the Guardian saw an increase of nearly 5% to 7.35m, according to Audit Bureau of Circulations for February.

  • Month-on-month, the biggest losers were Trinity Mirror, whose daily browsers fell at its national titles by 16.6% to just under 4m, and Metro, whose average daily browsers decreased by more than 10% to 1.1m.
  • The Telegraph and Independent bothexperienced small falls of about 3% to 4.4m and 2.4m respectively.
  • The two Northern and Shell titles, which have the smallest audiences online, also fared poorly, with the Daily Express falling 4.5% to under 840,000 and the Daily Star falling by more than 11% to just under 600,000.
I believe these figures show the decline with the newspapers and it's a massive problem with newspapers as it shows the decline.

http://time.com/3745787/apple-watch-translation/

Apple Watch Translator App IHG

This article is about the apple watch and how this could be the most successful app yet. The apple watch could be a fantastic product but it could be very bad and not make many sales you don't know with these risky products.

  • One of the most interesting of these Apple Watch apps yet is InterContinental Hotels Group’s IHG Translator App.
  • he app, which is already out for iOS and Android devices, will allow travelers to speak English directly into the Apple Watch (or choose pre-selected phrases) for translation into 13 different languages.
I believe this apple watch will not be successful because it costs way too much and people will not find the need for this because they can just use their phones and this costs more than the iphone.

Holy Moly: launched by Jamie East in 2002

Gossip website Holy Moly, now owned by the makers of Big Brother, has closed after 13 years. This website was created in 2002 and was very successful over the years gaining many viewers.

  • “Over a decade after the launch of Holy Moly, the articles being published this week will sadly be the last,” it said in a statement.
  • “Everyone involved is incredibly proud of the site but also accepts that the digital publishing world is a very different place from the one Holy Moly started out in 13 years ago and unfortunately it just isn’t financially sustainable anymore.
This was a great website for its target market because it covered most celebrities and people really want news about people who are big in the media.

Viner Ben Phillips believes his account has been hacked after all of his Vines were deleted on Sunday.

A Vine star who reportedly made £2,000 per second from his posts claims he has been hacked, with all of his videos deleted from his account.

  • star who reportedly made £2,000 per second
  • Ben Phillips, who has has 1.3m followers on the platform which allows users to upload six-second clips, told the Guardian
  • The 22-year-old said he has contacted Vine to ask for help, but may well have to start all over again if the problem can’t be resolved
It is quite staggering how much money he makes for vine clips and they are very short and he puts hardly any work in doing them because they take no effort and are very short.
1) The first section is about creating an identity for yourself and ideas about self image there is a certain way we want ourself to be seen.
The second section is about how identities were set to an individual according to many different things e.g class or race
The third part is about the need of having needs and meeting our desires, advertising has helped people to know what they want.
The fourth part is about a rise of an individual. which is about how a person start to become unique
The fifth part is about branding and lifestyle which is about the way people buy items to what match their identities.
The last part is about as individuals we make our own choices and are in control of our public imagine.

2) 5 brands you will associate: Manchester United, Apple, Nike, Sony, YouTube

3) Slightly agree as the media because the media really just care about style and fashion because this will bring in more money and more viewers.

4) Media Saturation is media concerning and involving everybody This could be online and on TV. We are in a Media saturated time because everyone uses it and it has many things in it. Media is used for communicating and is very important in the Digital world.

5) I believe when you see me on Twitter it is a reflection of who I am in real life because In real life im quite funny and just talk about football and thats what I do in real life

Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel says music is 'really appealing' for his messaging app

Fresh from adding soundtrack feature to social app, Evan Spiegel hints at more plans to merge music and messaging in the future. Evan Spiegel has hinted at plans to do more with music in his company’s popular messaging app, describing it as “a really interesting opportunity” Snapchat’s main features involve sharing photos and videos with friends that disappear either as soon as they’re viewed, or after 24 hours. However, the app has added several music features in recent months.

  • They include major label Warner Music Group signing on as one of the launch partners for the app’s Snapchat Discover feature
  • Snapchat also held talks with music videos service Vevo about it becoming a launch partner in Snapchat Discover, but they broke down after the two companies couldn’t agree on how to split advertising revenues from the deal.
I Think this will be A great idea for snap chat as it will make his company even more money. It will be a win win situation for both parties as they can advertise on platform which all their target market use.
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/mar/01/raif-badawi-could-be-retried-and-beheaded-family-ensaf-haidar-apostasy

Ensaf Haidar, wife of Raif Badawi.

Raif Badawi, the Saudi blogger who was sentenced to a decade in prison and 1,000 lashes for insulting Islam, now faces being beheaded for renouncing the religion, his family have said.

  • They claimed to have learned of attempts within the Saudi judicial system to have Raif Badawi retried for the crime, which carries a death sentence. Amnesty International said it was looking into the claims, which could not be verified on Sunday evening.
  • “Over a million people have called for Raif’s freedom. That should be the only development we’re hearing about.”
  • But his family, who cited “information from reliable sources” they did not name, now believe that the case has been referred on again to the country’s Penal court under regulations introduced last autumn.

This shows that digital media is very influential in the modern day because people may still have the freedom to say anything on line but there still is a limit.

ipad

This article is about the new apparent Ipad pro which is expected to be the next ipad. The 12.9in business-focused iPad will begin production in the second half of the year.

  • Production starting in September would allow Apple to release the new iPad within October, the month in which Apple traditionally refreshes its tablet line.
  • Apple has seen four straight quarters of declining sales of its iPad line, which is currently offered in 9.7in and 7.9in screen sizes, despite the launch of a thinner iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3, both introducing Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint sensor to the tabl
  • A larger iPad measuring 12.9in diagonally would offer 76% more screen area than the current 9.7in if it retains the same 4:3 ratio for its width and length. It could be more attractive to business users, who have already started to use Apple’s 9.7in iPad as a cheaper, more secure and longer-lasting laptop alternative.
I believe if this ipad is at a high price it will be very hard to increase their figures as they are very low and it will be at the same price. What needs to be done is that they have to make them cheaper to get them selling again.
Emma Barnett

1) Emma Barnett is a New digital media editor for the telegraph. However recently she did suffer bullying online twitter and it was her and other female journalists. She thought it was internet trolls at the start however it did get serious and the police had to get involved.

2) The tweet that kicked this issue was a tweet sent which stated a bomb has been planted near your house, this was very serious that the police moved the female journalists out of the house.

3. There wasn't a campaign for this and it stop straight after the police got involved. I believe online nothing was done and there were no campaigns that were done.

Ched Evans

1) Ched Evans was a Welsh International who was a great youngster for Sheff Utd and was attracting interest from bigger clubs. However few years ago he was accused of rape, although this was a very strange case because the lady he raped didnt give her consent because she was passed out.

2. On the night the lady had sex with one of his friend and she was sober enough to give her consent, however the lady wasnt sober enough to give her consent.

3. I believe this is going over the top that he isnt getting a contract because he did give his time and he is just a normal person trying to get back into his job that he loves

Twitter Silence

1) This was a campaign made where females where silent on twitter for 24 hours to state their inability to speak online. without getting abuse online.

2) Idea came from a quote from a book.

3) i don't believe this a valid argument because it something that will hust worsen the situation and cause a bigger stir. It will provoke people online to worsen the situation.

Female presence on bank notes

1) Caroline protested against the bank of England to change Winston Churchill on the bank notes.Replaced by Elizabeth fry, however she did win the protest and a female will be placed on a bank note.

2) The thing that sparked the protest was her to replace males on the bank notes by females

3) I believe that this wasn't a valid campaign because we already see females on bank notes and it was something for attention as I believe Winston Churchill fully deserves to be on the bank notes because he was the prime Minister when we won the war.

Emma Watson

1) Emma Watson wants to raise awareness for gender equality as she wants men to be treated the same as women.

2) Her own values.

3) I think her campaign is valid and has a point with this campaign.

Mail Online: broke the 200 million monthly uniques barrier in January

This article is about the online website for Daily mail and how the views went up over the week as it hit back to 200 million monthly subscribers and the viewers did go up because of the east enders live week.

  • Mail Online powered past 200 million monthly unique browsers for the first time in January.
  • The Daily Mail website’s monthly traffic increased to 224,934,062, an 18.7% increase on the previous month, according to the the latest Audit Bureau of Circulations figures published on Thursday.
  • theguardian.com also reported record monthly traffic, passing 120 million monthly unique browsers in January, the month it completed the switch to its redesigned website. It attracted 121,733,045 monthly uniques, a rise of 14% on the previous month.
These figures shows that traditional newspapers still have a place online and they can attract even more viewers than selling newspapers and this also lets them advertise on their webpage when they have this many readers a month.
http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/feb/23/youtube-games-channels-january-views

PewDiePie's YouTube channel was watched 417.9m times in January 2015.

This article is about the top gaming youtube channels and how many views they've generated over the last year. PewDiePie was joined in January’s top 10 by Popular MMOs (266.8m views); Stampy (252.9m); The Diamond Minecart (210.8m); Markiplier (208.1m); Jack Sceptic Eye (201.2m); Vanoss Gaming (183.8m); Vegetta (177.8m); Juega German (127.3m); and El Rubius (108.8m

  • PewDiePie topped the latest monthly chart of YouTube games channels published by online video industry site Tubefilter, based on data from analytics firm OpenSlate.
  • That’s nearly 2.2bn views between the 10 channels. How are they growing? You can gauge that by a comparison to Tubefilter and OpenSlate’s chart from six months ago, in July 2014, when the top 10 YouTube games channels generated 1.6bn views.
  • Meanwhile, the 100 most popular channels in the chart’s collected views grew by nearly 40% from 4.3bn in July 2014 to nearly 6.1bn in January 2015.

This shows the development of new digital media and how big it has got over the years. The amount of views are extraordinary as they are in the billions. However there are still other youtubers which amount to the views and this is only the small minority which represent the large outlay

2. The 2 texts that are mentioned in this text are HBO's Pan Am and Beyonce's music video why don't you love me.

3. The example from Beyonce's music video is that she is openly rubbing her chest whilst looking down at the camera clearly submitting herself to sexual objectification acknowledging the male gaze.  The uniforms that they were in the second texts acknowledges the male gaze as they hair is all geared up and they have make up on which attract males attention.

4. I believe there is need for everything and there is a need for feminism in the modern society and that is why it is still regarded as a very important subject. Women are still not treated the same way as men and this is something worth fighting for and that is why there is still feminism

5. Nostalgia- A sentimental longing for the past, often only remembering the positives of the time.

Feminism- A movement aimed at defining establishing and defending women rights and equality of men

Post feminism- an ideology in culture and society that society somehow past needing feminism and that the attitudes and arguments are no longer needed.

No More Page 3

1. The campaign was started by a writer Lucy- Anne Holmes

2. 1) It’s 2014! Page 3 was first introduced in the sexist 1970s. A lot has changed over the last 30+ years in our society, we think it’s time The Sun caught up…

2) It’s soft porn in the UK’s no.1 selling family newspaper that children are exposed to. Until 2003 the models were only 16 (and made to dress up in school ties and hats – seriously!) It’s never been OK. One day we’ll look back on this and think “oh my goodness, we did what?!”

3) What does it teach children? They see page after page of pictures of men in clothes doing stuff (running the country, having opinions, achieving in sport!) and what are the women doing in this society they’re learning about? Not much really, other than standing topless in their pants showing their bare breasts for men. It’s not really fair, is it?

4) Women say, do and think so many interesting and incredible things and should be celebrated for their many achievements. They are people, not things! Not ‘that’. The fact that we hear ‘look at the tits on that’ or ‘I’d do that’ is disgusting, disrespectful and objectifying. Page 3 of The Sun is the icon that perpetuates and normalises this horrible sexist ‘banter’.

5) Every single weekday for the last 44 years in The Sun newspaper the largest female image has been of a young woman (usually of a very particular age, race, physicality) showing her breasts for men, sending out a powerful message that whatever else a woman achieves, her primary role is to serve men sexually. Pretty rubbish that really.

6) The Sun newspaper could be so much stronger without Page 3. Because currently, any story they run about women’s issues such as rape, sexual abuse, harassment, domestic violence or the dangers of online porn is drowned out and contradicted by the neon flashing sign of Page 3 that says ‘shut up, girls, and get your tits out.

3. Susie said that the newspaper is outdated Barbra said that the campaign shouldn't be abandoned because of what sun did the next day on the page 3.

5. I agree with this campaign because it is relevant and has a point it helps a very important issue and the page 3 demoralises women and this campaign helps restore moral.

6 I agree where in a post feminism era.
http://www.theguardian.com/media/2015/feb/03/youtube-star-zoella-joins-bbcs-comic-relief-bake-off

YouTube star Zoe Sugg, aka Zoella, is to take part in the BBC's Great Comic Relief Bake Off.

This article is about the Youtuber Zoe Ella who joins the BBC Comic relief bake off. She joins a cast of cooks including presenter Alexa Chung, former Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles and Strictly Come Dancing winner Abbey Clancy.

  • The 24-year-old, whose on-line video blog has almost 7 million subscribers, recently featured on Debrett’s list of the 500 most influential people in Britain.
  • They are joined by Jameela Jamil, Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley, Jonathan Ross, Kayvan Novak, Lulu, Victoria Wood and former prime minister Gordon Brown’s wife Sarah.

I think this will be good for charity and BBC as she will attract her youtube audience this will know reach more than 500 k people just because of her youtube reach.
http://www.theguardian.com/media/greenslade/2015/feb/06/rupert-murdochs-grandson-launches-an-audio-news-app

This article is about the Murdoch family and Rupert Murdoch Grandson has launched his new app which is a news audio app.

  • Rupert Murdoch’s grandson, James MacLeod, is following in the family footsteps as co-founder of a new news app called Clippet
  • MacLeod is the son of Murdoch’s eldest daughter, Prudence, and Alasdair Macleod, who worked at Wapping for a good while as manager of the Times before taking an executive role in Australia. He spent 20 years working for News Corp before leaving in 2010. James was born during his stint in Britain, but was raised in Sydney.
  • Unlike BuzzFeed, Vox and Vice, which are all increasingly investing in original journalism, Clippet summarises the main issues of the day reported elsewhere in what is thought to be an accessible way.
I believe James will be the next billionaire and will take over the Murdoch families asses which include Sky and Fox.

http://www.theguardian.com/media/2015/feb/03/spotify-abandons-russian-launch-plan

Spotify has cancelled its plans to launch in Russia

This article is about how Spotify abandons their plans to launch in Russia. However the CEO stated that it may happen in the near future. spotify is a great service which provides great music and could be a hit in Russia.

  • Kubaneishvili wrote: “I regret to inform you that Spotify refused to launch in Russia in the foreseeable future. There are several reasons – the economic crisis, the political situation, the new laws governing the internet.”
  • His statement that the move was for the “foreseeable future” suggests the Swedish company may revisit its decision should economic and political conditions change.
I think this will be great for Russian this service, however I don't understand why they will pull out as this will only effect the companies profits.

Snapchat Discover: partners include Daily Mail, Vice and Yahoo

This article is about the new snap chat update available to all users. This article is about how it helps vice media. This is very usual as snap chat is known for sending pictures and the discover section was a surprise to many people including me. This helps these outlets to advertise and helps both parties.

  • “Snapchat’s Discover news partnership is very exciting,” says Sue Llewellyn, a social media consultant for the BBC and other media organisations.
  • snapchat is shy about sharing numbers but in December 2014 TechCrunch reported it had close to 200 million monthly average users, up from 100 million in August, with the company valued at at least $10bn. This may be far from Facebook’s 1.39 billion active user.
I believe this is a very good idea and this something that i really like as I have already used it and read the articles on the discover page which as I am niche reader and this supporters this audience.

Alvardo

1. Adulthood links to alvardo's theory because the black characters in the movie are presented as dangerous with knifes and guns

2. The Second video links to the theory because Black Africans are being pitied asking for the peoples money.

3. The third video is presenting black people as dangerous.

Fannon

1.  The video of the man getting beaten up links to fannons theory as it has a essentialisation of chavs as a group are beating someone up.

2.  This links to fannon because this actor is putting on a white mask and is acting different to his culture.

3. Citizen khan links to Fannons theory as the The dad is acting like a child and is acting different.

Said

1.  Jasmin links to said because it shows the western is more powerful than the eastern.

2.  Four lions links to the saids theory because it is mocking the eastern world and America is presented as superior to the eastern world.

3. American Sniper links to Saids theory because eastern is at war with Americans and it shows Americans are more power full.
