Mail Online: broke the 200 million monthly uniques barrier in January

This article is about the online website for Daily mail and how the views went up over the week as it hit back to 200 million monthly subscribers and the viewers did go up because of the east enders live week.

  • Mail Online powered past 200 million monthly unique browsers for the first time in January.
  • The Daily Mail website’s monthly traffic increased to 224,934,062, an 18.7% increase on the previous month, according to the the latest Audit Bureau of Circulations figures published on Thursday.
  • theguardian.com also reported record monthly traffic, passing 120 million monthly unique browsers in January, the month it completed the switch to its redesigned website. It attracted 121,733,045 monthly uniques, a rise of 14% on the previous month.
These figures shows that traditional newspapers still have a place online and they can attract even more viewers than selling newspapers and this also lets them advertise on their webpage when they have this many readers a month.
http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/feb/23/youtube-games-channels-january-views

PewDiePie's YouTube channel was watched 417.9m times in January 2015.

This article is about the top gaming youtube channels and how many views they've generated over the last year. PewDiePie was joined in January’s top 10 by Popular MMOs (266.8m views); Stampy (252.9m); The Diamond Minecart (210.8m); Markiplier (208.1m); Jack Sceptic Eye (201.2m); Vanoss Gaming (183.8m); Vegetta (177.8m); Juega German (127.3m); and El Rubius (108.8m

  • PewDiePie topped the latest monthly chart of YouTube games channels published by online video industry site Tubefilter, based on data from analytics firm OpenSlate.
  • That’s nearly 2.2bn views between the 10 channels. How are they growing? You can gauge that by a comparison to Tubefilter and OpenSlate’s chart from six months ago, in July 2014, when the top 10 YouTube games channels generated 1.6bn views.
  • Meanwhile, the 100 most popular channels in the chart’s collected views grew by nearly 40% from 4.3bn in July 2014 to nearly 6.1bn in January 2015.

This shows the development of new digital media and how big it has got over the years. The amount of views are extraordinary as they are in the billions. However there are still other youtubers which amount to the views and this is only the small minority which represent the large outlay

2. The 2 texts that are mentioned in this text are HBO's Pan Am and Beyonce's music video why don't you love me.

3. The example from Beyonce's music video is that she is openly rubbing her chest whilst looking down at the camera clearly submitting herself to sexual objectification acknowledging the male gaze.  The uniforms that they were in the second texts acknowledges the male gaze as they hair is all geared up and they have make up on which attract males attention.

4. I believe there is need for everything and there is a need for feminism in the modern society and that is why it is still regarded as a very important subject. Women are still not treated the same way as men and this is something worth fighting for and that is why there is still feminism

5. Nostalgia- A sentimental longing for the past, often only remembering the positives of the time.

Feminism- A movement aimed at defining establishing and defending women rights and equality of men

Post feminism- an ideology in culture and society that society somehow past needing feminism and that the attitudes and arguments are no longer needed.

No More Page 3

1. The campaign was started by a writer Lucy- Anne Holmes

2. 1) It’s 2014! Page 3 was first introduced in the sexist 1970s. A lot has changed over the last 30+ years in our society, we think it’s time The Sun caught up…

2) It’s soft porn in the UK’s no.1 selling family newspaper that children are exposed to. Until 2003 the models were only 16 (and made to dress up in school ties and hats – seriously!) It’s never been OK. One day we’ll look back on this and think “oh my goodness, we did what?!”

3) What does it teach children? They see page after page of pictures of men in clothes doing stuff (running the country, having opinions, achieving in sport!) and what are the women doing in this society they’re learning about? Not much really, other than standing topless in their pants showing their bare breasts for men. It’s not really fair, is it?

4) Women say, do and think so many interesting and incredible things and should be celebrated for their many achievements. They are people, not things! Not ‘that’. The fact that we hear ‘look at the tits on that’ or ‘I’d do that’ is disgusting, disrespectful and objectifying. Page 3 of The Sun is the icon that perpetuates and normalises this horrible sexist ‘banter’.

5) Every single weekday for the last 44 years in The Sun newspaper the largest female image has been of a young woman (usually of a very particular age, race, physicality) showing her breasts for men, sending out a powerful message that whatever else a woman achieves, her primary role is to serve men sexually. Pretty rubbish that really.

6) The Sun newspaper could be so much stronger without Page 3. Because currently, any story they run about women’s issues such as rape, sexual abuse, harassment, domestic violence or the dangers of online porn is drowned out and contradicted by the neon flashing sign of Page 3 that says ‘shut up, girls, and get your tits out.

3. Susie said that the newspaper is outdated Barbra said that the campaign shouldn't be abandoned because of what sun did the next day on the page 3.

5. I agree with this campaign because it is relevant and has a point it helps a very important issue and the page 3 demoralises women and this campaign helps restore moral.

6 I agree where in a post feminism era.
http://www.theguardian.com/media/2015/feb/03/youtube-star-zoella-joins-bbcs-comic-relief-bake-off

YouTube star Zoe Sugg, aka Zoella, is to take part in the BBC's Great Comic Relief Bake Off.

This article is about the Youtuber Zoe Ella who joins the BBC Comic relief bake off. She joins a cast of cooks including presenter Alexa Chung, former Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles and Strictly Come Dancing winner Abbey Clancy.

  • The 24-year-old, whose on-line video blog has almost 7 million subscribers, recently featured on Debrett’s list of the 500 most influential people in Britain.
  • They are joined by Jameela Jamil, Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley, Jonathan Ross, Kayvan Novak, Lulu, Victoria Wood and former prime minister Gordon Brown’s wife Sarah.

I think this will be good for charity and BBC as she will attract her youtube audience this will know reach more than 500 k people just because of her youtube reach.
http://www.theguardian.com/media/greenslade/2015/feb/06/rupert-murdochs-grandson-launches-an-audio-news-app

This article is about the Murdoch family and Rupert Murdoch Grandson has launched his new app which is a news audio app.

  • Rupert Murdoch’s grandson, James MacLeod, is following in the family footsteps as co-founder of a new news app called Clippet
  • MacLeod is the son of Murdoch’s eldest daughter, Prudence, and Alasdair Macleod, who worked at Wapping for a good while as manager of the Times before taking an executive role in Australia. He spent 20 years working for News Corp before leaving in 2010. James was born during his stint in Britain, but was raised in Sydney.
  • Unlike BuzzFeed, Vox and Vice, which are all increasingly investing in original journalism, Clippet summarises the main issues of the day reported elsewhere in what is thought to be an accessible way.
I believe James will be the next billionaire and will take over the Murdoch families asses which include Sky and Fox.

Spotify has cancelled its plans to launch in Russia

This article is about how Spotify abandons their plans to launch in Russia. However the CEO stated that it may happen in the near future. spotify is a great service which provides great music and could be a hit in Russia.

  • Kubaneishvili wrote: “I regret to inform you that Spotify refused to launch in Russia in the foreseeable future. There are several reasons – the economic crisis, the political situation, the new laws governing the internet.”
  • His statement that the move was for the “foreseeable future” suggests the Swedish company may revisit its decision should economic and political conditions change.
I think this will be great for Russian this service, however I don't understand why they will pull out as this will only effect the companies profits.

Snapchat Discover: partners include Daily Mail, Vice and Yahoo

This article is about the new snap chat update available to all users. This article is about how it helps vice media. This is very usual as snap chat is known for sending pictures and the discover section was a surprise to many people including me. This helps these outlets to advertise and helps both parties.

  • “Snapchat’s Discover news partnership is very exciting,” says Sue Llewellyn, a social media consultant for the BBC and other media organisations.
  • snapchat is shy about sharing numbers but in December 2014 TechCrunch reported it had close to 200 million monthly average users, up from 100 million in August, with the company valued at at least $10bn. This may be far from Facebook’s 1.39 billion active user.
I believe this is a very good idea and this something that i really like as I have already used it and read the articles on the discover page which as I am niche reader and this supporters this audience.

Alvardo

1. Adulthood links to alvardo's theory because the black characters in the movie are presented as dangerous with knifes and guns

2. The Second video links to the theory because Black Africans are being pitied asking for the peoples money.

3. The third video is presenting black people as dangerous.

Fannon

1.  The video of the man getting beaten up links to fannons theory as it has a essentialisation of chavs as a group are beating someone up.

2.  This links to fannon because this actor is putting on a white mask and is acting different to his culture.

3. Citizen khan links to Fannons theory as the The dad is acting like a child and is acting different.

Said

1.  Jasmin links to said because it shows the western is more powerful than the eastern.

2.  Four lions links to the saids theory because it is mocking the eastern world and America is presented as superior to the eastern world.

3. American Sniper links to Saids theory because eastern is at war with Americans and it shows Americans are more power full.

Thursday 5 February 2015

1. Alvarado's theory is separated in 4 sections- Dangerous, Pitied, humorous and exotic and people are represented in these 4 categories.

Fannon's theory summarizes stereotypes.outlining typical black stereotypes and how individuals who do not originate from Britain are seen to be 'putting on the white mask'

Edward summed up as civilized VS. uncivilized, West VS. East

2. It offers positive representations of British Muslims as you can see them praying before they start working. Also it shows British Muslim women are very strong willed as she goes of to do her on things and puts on a white mask. Also a positive representation for British Muslims as she has control as she is doing her own stuff.

It also has a negative impact of British Muslim as the Man is living in a very unpleasant house. The way he is eating the peanut butter shows he has no manners. He isn't acting like a Muslim as he pulls out drugs.

http://www.theguardian.com/media/2015/jan/28/bloomberg-switches-off-comments-in-website-redesign#

Bloomberg.com

This article is about the new Bloomberg website which provides business news. Recently they developed the new website and removed the comment section. However they believe it will be better to turn of the comment section because it makes to website more faster and able to get more content on the website. Bloomberg’s new site aims to bring together content from the media company’s digital, print, television, radio and live event operations.

  • “It’s faster, smarter, and frankly bigger than anything we've done before – and it’s uniquely digital, built for a global web audience, and designed to deliver the right news at the right time,” Topolsky said.
  • A spokeswoman for Bloomberg declined to comment on the removal of comments, but it is understood the company believes the conversation about its content is better served on social media rather than on its own platform.
I believe this is bad mistake because news stories are about what people think, however this doesn't allow onsumers to comment on the news story which is a bad thing as they can't comment
Films- Adulthood, Kidulthood, attack the block , ill manors, shanks, sket
TV Shows- citizen khan, goodness gracious me, luther, line of duty
Online tv shows- Brother with no game, meet the adebanjos, brothers with no games.

We can apply Fannon and Alvardo's theories to the tight jeans short trailer as they reinforce black and youth stereotypes. I believe it does challenge some representations of the black youth as well. Alvardo has 4 sections. I believe that it goes against the dangerous representation as these three young adults are far from dangerous as they give the white man in tight jeans no big mouth and no continuous steer. The dominate stereotype, of black youths, is that there are scary and make you cross the road, however they weren't presented in that way. They also were being humorous as they were making funny jokes and acting like children with the jokes and they were having a fun time and being funny. These 3 black youths have been initialized as they are acting like little children as they were arguing and joking around.

The second text was gone too far and it was a trailer. In terms of Alvardo's theory the Nigerian was pitied as he was acting like a child and people were laughing at him as they were feeling sorry for him. He is also exotic as he brings the Nigeria culture to the UK and is acting different to the people in the UK. In this trailer there is no dangerous representation as this move there are quite funny and don't act dangerous. Franco's theory states that this Nigerian is Primitvized as he is unknown to the England culture. Lastly the Nigerian person is acting like a child in the movie and this is evident in the way he acts in the chicken shop and starts singing.
